Stairs, floors and furry feet.

As dogs age, their needs change significantly. Just as you consider a puppy's surroundings, senior dogs require the same level of care.

A quick audit of your senior dog's environment can help prevent painful strains and sprains in your Silver Woof. Consider these tips:

Stairs

As dogs age, stairs become more challenging. If your senior dog insists on following you up and down stairs, consider using a child-proof gate to restrict access and prevent potential falls.

Floorboards

Slippery floors can lead to injuries. If you have floorboards, think about how slippery they are when you wear socks. It's the same for senior dogs, especially if they run to the door when someone comes home. Place rugs in areas where your dog runs the most, particularly around corners, to provide traction and prevent slipping.

Under Paw Hair

Trim the hair on the underside of their paws, especially between toes and pads. For senior dogs with furry feet, long hair can act like feather dusters, making smooth surfaces slippery. Regular trimming can help them maintain better traction and prevent falls.

Toenail Trimming

Keeping your senior dog's toenails trimmed is crucial. Long nails can alter their gait and posture, leading to joint pain and arthritis. Regular trimming can prevent these issues and improve their overall comfort.
