Founding Silver Woof and Guardian
If we help just one dog, then our intention for this site will be fulfilled.
Fletch was my muse. I'd let him write this up, but he always needed help navigating a keyboard.
Inviting Fletch to share my life was the best decision I ever made. He came to live with me at the age of five and to be honest, it wasn't smooth sailing. He had behavioural issues that required understanding and training, and ironically, so did I!
Fletch lived to be 14 years old, and we learned a lot together along the way. I learned about his triggers and tried my best to manage them, and he got used to my anxiety and learned how to help me.
Fletch was my best friend, my shadow, and was always by my side.
When he started to suffer from osteoarthritis, it was horrible. I hated seeing him so sad and unwilling to move. So, we embarked on a journey into the world wide web, reading countless articles, which led to trying different supplements, allied healthcare modalities, and significant shifts in his diet.
It worked as a collective approach to his healthcare, alongside regular visits to his vet. People often wondered at his age, commenting on how young he looked. My instincts tell me that his good health was due to the changes we made to his lifestyle, which was a direct result of the research we did.
So, our mission is to share the information we gathered, inform other guardians about the modalities we tried, and report on our success.
If we can help just one dog, then the intention behind this website has been fulfilled.
I love and thank Fletch for teaching me so much about unconditional love and never giving up. I will miss you with all of my heart, for all of my days, Fletch.

Melanie
Social Media Bandit
Melanie is our Social Media Bandit.
When the concept of The Silver Woof was born, it became very clear, very quickly, that social media would drive the growth of our platform and audience. All for the benefit and love of senior dogs and rescues.
Mel was the only choice. Her love of animals and social media expertise compelled The Silver Woof to invite her onto our team. Luckily for us, she said yes!
Growing up on acreage, Melanie has been surrounded by wildlife her whole life. Strays and abandoned animals would often be found wandering on the property, so they would be welcomed into the family and mum always made up ‘an extra bed’.
To say her family loved dogs is kind of an understatement. Her Dad owned Greyhounds and it was always instilled in Melanie that the dogs were a part of the family. They ran a few races, then lived out their days on the property alongside a Red Cattle dog, German Shepherd, and a Rottweiler.
Melanie’s parents taught her intrinsic respect for all animals, instilling in her that every animal had the right to a safe home, love, and kindness.
Melanie has volunteered as a dog walker at Monica’s dog rescue. She has also spent time volunteering in Thailand with charities “The Soi Dog”, “Dog and Cat Rescue Centre Koh Samui”, “The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project” and various Elephant rescue parks.
With 15 years of experience in Real Estate under her belt, Melanie was delighted to be invited into The Silver Woof team as our in-house Social Media Bandit.
Melanie’s current flatmate is Thomas, a Siamese x she fostered over Christmas 10 years ago. Melanie is also Fletch’s godmother.
With love and gratitude to Melanie for donating her valuable time to support senior dogs and rescues.
